First Sarawakian Malay woman senator sworn in

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Wanita vice-president Dayang Madinah Abang Openg was sworn in as a senator before Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Abu Zahar Nika Ujang this morning.

The 56-year-old social activist replaced another PBB Wanita representative, Datuk Seri Empaing Jabu, wife of Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, whose two-term senatorship expired on July 11.

Dayang Madinah joins Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Wanita chief Doris Brodie, who was sworn in last March, as the only female senator from East Malaysia. Read More
